| After early work in pencil,
charcoal and oils, Dottie winner began painting in watercolor
about 15 years ago under the tutelage of Grace Scherer, former
local artist and gallery owner. Since then she has painted exclusively
in watercolor. Over the years, she has attended watercolor workshops
with regionally and nationally known artists including Frank
Webb, Jan Kunz, Linda Doll, Carolyn Gawarecki, Dave Daniels,
Fritz Briggs, James McNeil and Joan Warner Carr. Dottie has always enjoyed painting florals but has focused more recently on unposed figures in landscapes and seascapes, striving to capture the interplay of color with light and shadow. She shows her work in local/regional galleries and juried shows and has won awards each consecutive year since beginning to exhibit in the mid '90s. Her work was recently accepted for inclusion in the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the 71st Annual Cumberland Valley Artists' Exhibition at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown. Her most recent achievements include: Best in Show and Inner Essence Award, Western Maryland Watercolor Society, 2003; Second Place, Laurel Arts Yin-Yang Show, 2003; First Place, Western Maryland Watercolor Society, 2001 and 2002; Still LIfe/Floral and Members' Choice Award, Western Maryland Watercolor Society, 2002; First Place, Somerset County Arts Council 2002; Best in Show, Hampshire County Arts Council, 2002; B.P. Lesky Purchase Award, 70th Annual Cumberland Valley Artists' Exhibition, 2002. Dottie is a member of the Western Maryland Watercolor Society, the Allegany Area Art Alliance, and a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. |
